Sheffield Piano Tuner

Welcome to the website of Richard Lidster, a self-employed piano tuner based in Sheffield.

I am a qualified piano tuner, a graduate of the highly-regarded Piano Tuning, Maintenance and Repairs course at Newark College – the only course in the UK offering this type of training – attending the course between 2011 and 2014. Initially, I built up my customer base in Sheffield, but because of family links in the Scarborough area, I can now offer appointments in North Yorkshire too.

I am available from 9 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. (later by arrangement) every day of the week. At the start of each week I list my free appointment times on my availability page, so that you can choose your preferred time before you contact me. If you have a busy schedule and would prefer to ask me via phone or email, that is fine too!

I cover all of South Yorkshire (Sheffield, Chesterfield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster) and the surrounding areas, within 40 miles of Sheffield. I am willing to travel further but there may be a supplement for travel costs if you live more than 40 miles from Sheffield. I make regular fortnightly visits to tune pianos for customers in the Scarborough/Whitby area.

I have an introductory offer of £60 for piano tuning in Sheffield, and £65 for bookings outside of the city. A standard tuning will take approximately 90 minutes. However, depending on the condition of the piano, it may take up to two hours if regulation is included.

If your piano action is damaged I am able to perform most repair tasks on the day, although it sometimes depends on the extent of problem. If any parts need to be replaced (this is often occurs with very old pianos), I often have spares in my tool kit, although I may need to order new parts or have them custom made (especially wooden or decorative parts). If you inform me of the problem on the phone or in an email, I will advise you of the available options.

Recommendations:

“When our old piano was delivered to our house, it received quite a bashing as it was hauled up narrow stone steps, turned on its side and dropped unceremoniously on the floor. Needless to say, it didn’t sound very happy afterwards. However, thanks to Richard’s skills it now sounds beautiful. We cannot recommend him highly enough” – Lou and Joseph Hughes, Robin Hood’s Bay

‘Richard is very professional and thorough in his approach. He restored my ageing piano to concert pitch after it had been moved, banged around by small children and generally neglected for quite a while. I can recommend him without reservation.’ – Jan, Nether Edge, Sheffield.
